About This Role
ELA-S (English Language Acquisition – Spanish) Teachers instruct students in both Spanish and English, following a DPS standards-based curriculum that includes grade-level content, subject-specific lesson plans, and personal development.
What You'll Do:
- Help all students develop competence and confidence by balancing basic skill acquisition with conceptual understanding.
- Monitor, supervise, and enforce rules of conduct and behavior for assigned students, reinforcing positive behaviors in accordance with school and district policies.
- Observe, evaluate, report, and document students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
- Communicate and collaborate with parents/guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to address students' behavioral and academic challenges.
- Prepare educational course outlines, objectives, and materials based on curriculum guidelines and state/local requirements.
- Present subject matter using various teaching methods and technology, adapting your approach to meet diverse student learning styles.

Important Salary Note: To ensure accurate salary placement, all required documentation must be submitted via onboarding within 15 days of receiving your offer letter.
What You’ll Need:
-Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field if required. We welcome new graduates! Master’s Degree, preferred. A Master's Degree is only required for Concurrent Enrollment positions.
-Have a valid (CDE) teaching license. Click for additional information regarding specific requirements and qualifications for the various subject areas (DPS does accept a CDE Application Receipt for 90 days.)
-ELA-S (teaching in both Spanish and English) positions, candidates are required to take the Spanish language proficiency (SLP) exam, proctored by Berlitz Testing. Click for more information.
-Additionally, if a teacher has taken, or choses to take, the Praxis II - Spanish: World Language 5195 exSpanishwill also work at DPS as an appropriate SLP exam, as long as the candidate scores 163 or higher on the exam.
Must be Bilingual in Spanish and English Required.
