Position Title: Denver Food Services Manager
Reports to: Director of Food Services
Job Classification: Full-time; Exempt
Salary Range: $57,900 – $77,100 annually

The Opportunity:
The primary responsibility of the Denver Food Services Manager is to manage the daily operations of one of our locations for Lawrence Street Community Center (LSCC), 48th Ave East (48th), The Crossing and Northern Colorado (Fort Collins Rescue Mission and Harvest Farm) in addition to food inventory and distribution. This will entail managing and developing the chefs in our kitchens and the safe transportation of prepared food from one location to another. Additionally, the Denver Food Services Manager is responsible for donation maximization, inventory processes, health code compliance, donor relations, volunteer processes, sanitation standards, staff, menu scheduling, and special events.
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
KITCHEN OPERATION MANAGEMENT:
- Supervise and coach the chefs and kitchen participants at your assigned location.
- Ensure Food Services runs as one integrated operation through the supply chain, from MOC or outside suppliers to the kitchen lines in the dining rooms.
- Optimize volunteer experience by training staff in volunteer administration and by creating tools to assess volunteer satisfaction.
- Conduct weekly kitchen staff meetings.
- Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning logs and schedules at all facilities.
- Ensure operational coverage as needed when chefs or other kitchen staff are absent.
- Coordinate onboarding and training of new chefs at your assigned work location.
INVENTORY MANAGEMENT:
- Procure donor relationships to maintain adequate food supply for daily meal services.
- Maintain and rotate food storage areas in an organized manner, maintaining proper par levels and keeping areas free of clutter.
- Monitor proper storage, use, and disposal of all chemicals.
- Ensure proper functioning of kitchen equipment and manage any repairs or replacements.
MEAL PLANNING, PREPARATION & SERVICE:
- Coordinate and oversee the preparation of all meals in our two kitchens, adhering to Public Health food preparation standards set for by the Denver Department of Public Health Department or Larimer County Health Department.
- Oversee the menus for special events and holidays and direct the preparation and service of these meals.
- Create metrics to assess guest satisfaction with the meals that are served in all of our kitchens.
- Manage and execute training of all kitchen staff and volunteers in the appropriate aspects of meal planning, preparation and food safety.
- Ensure compliance with all food safety standards as defined by ServSaf and government regulations.
- Coordinate with the warehouse on kitchen supply needs.
- Assist chefs in both facilities with scheduling when needed.
DONATED and PURCHASED FOOD PROCESSING, STORAGE and DISTRIBUTION:
- Coordinate with the Denver Warehouse Food Coordinator regarding food inventory control and distribution.
- Minimize waste of donated and purchased food and food service supplies.
- Maximize inventory turnover at all Denver Rescue Mission food service locations for food as well as food service supplies.
FOOD and PHYSICAL SAFETY:
- Define and monitor best practices regarding personal hygiene, food handling, and proper cleaning and sanitizing methods as described in the “Food Safety Guide”.
- Manage Denver Rescue Mission food safety policies, procedures and logs.
- Maintain proper food rotation, labeling and quality.
- Ensure all cleaning schedules are enforced and updated.
- Coordinate Internal Health Inspectors, making necessary corrections and implementing systems to maintain health and safety standards.
WORK READINESS PROGRAM:
The Work Readiness program is a key component of DRM’s New Life Program, which is a residential recovery program for men struggling with homelessness, addiction, and other life challenges. The program aims to equip participants with the skills and habits necessary to re-enter the workforce and achieve self-sufficiency.
- Uphold the policies and procedures of the New Life Program as detailed in the Participant Handbook.
- Assess individual participant ability and creativity use work tasks to promote recovery concepts at their point of need.
- Develop, train and guide the participants to complete projects alongside Chefs.
- Provide supervision, training, de-escalation and problem-solving skills to address work site issues in a restorative justice spirit with participants.
- Evaluate participant’s performance and attitude to support their recovery.
- Communicate and collaborate in a timely manner with participants’ Care team including promotion and Incident Reports.
LOCATIONS-BASED RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The Crossing: Oversee the kitchen (300-500 meals daily) and Work Readiness Responsibilities.
- Lawrence Street: Oversee the Lawrence Street kitchen (1,000 – 1,800 meals daily).
- 48th Avenue: Oversee the 48th Avenue kitchen (900 -1,300 meals daily).
- Northern Colorado: Oversee the Fort Collins Rescue Mission kitchen (120 -250 meals daily), and Harvest Farm (100 – 200 meals daily) and Work Readiness Responsibilities.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Display the virtues of “Hungry, Humble, Smart” as described in Patrick Lencioni’s book “The Ideal Team Player”.
- Drive continuous improvement projects across all areas of responsibility.
- Maintain clear and effective communications with the Director of Food Services.
- Additional duties as assigned by the Vice President of Operations or the Director of Food Services.
- Obtain or possess the ServSafe certification as to train and conduct ServSafe training.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate of Arts degree in culinary arts preferred. A combination of education and experience can be substituted.
- Previous food industry and cooking experience required.
- ServSafe certified or the willingness to obtain this certification to be a ServSafe trainer to conduct ServSafe trainings.
- Solid Christian ethic with the ability to work with people of diverse cultural, educational and religious backgrounds.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to handle high pressure situations while maintaining composure and respect for staff and guests.
- Ability to prepare annual budget projections and proven success in operating within a budget.
- Knowledge of food industry standards and health codes.
- A passion for continuous improvement in food service operations.
- A heart and desire to serve the needy in a Christian environment.
- Willingness to work weekends and holidays.
- Capable of lifting at least 50 lbs.
- Must hold a current and Active Colorado Driver’s License and be willing to authorize a driver’s record background check. Driving record must be insurable under Denver Rescue Mission standards.
- Must be a Christian holding to the beliefs set forth in the Statement of Faith and expressed by a personal testimony and Christian conduct.
- NOTE: A limited amount of work-related travel may be required.
