Position Summary :
Position is responsible for railroad systems and infrastructure-related engineering projects. Oversees and reviews the work of staff and contracted personnel conducting design, repair, maintenance and replacement of track, drainage systems, bridges & culverts, highway-rail and pedestrian-rail grade crossings, signal control points / interlockings, overhead contact systems and substations, stations, maintenance facilities, and park and rides. Position may also be responsible for providing and / or facilitating design, calculations, and various engineering services.
Description of Duties :
- Manage scope, budget, and schedule, as well as development of design criteria, specifications, project guides, project meeting notes, and cost estimating activities for multidisciplinary engineering projects.
- Provides technical reports, engineering plans, and specifications through data collection / analysis / interpretation, field study, and problem solving to drive system safety, availability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Act as the main technical adviser for subcontractors and craft personnel.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide seamless project execution.
- Assist DTO Procurement and Administration staff with preparation of Engineering Contracts through scope of work development.
- Assist with the development and implementation of Engineering Department maintenance standards and asset renewal criteria as necessary.
- Interface with contractors for the preparation of engineering drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, processes, and criteria using sound judgment in making adaptations and modifications to Engineering Department-issued drawings, plans and specifications.
- Assist with the implementation of processes and tools, providing system reports, maintaining and updating electronic information systems.
- Use computer design software and field equipment to prepare engineering documents.
- Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, and procedures for the Engineering Department.
- Attends and participates in professional group meetings, staying on top of new trends and innovations in the field of railroad design, maintenance, inspection and repair.
- Other duties as assigned or required to meet business needs.
