Internship Project Description
This intern will join the Water Quality & Treatment (WQ&T) division to support research and analysis of energy usage at the Recycling Plant that could potentially lead to energy optimization efforts. Additionally, this intern will help develop a pathway to inform Denver Water of the feasibility of thermal heat recovery for the Recycling Plant and/or its source water pump station from Metro’s influent and/or effluent flows. Primary responsibilities include:

- Determine options and locations viable for heat recovery and suggest recommendations for equipment/technology or capital needs from Metro Wastewater/Denver Water
- Evaluation of environmental and financial impacts to Denver Water and other stakeholders including investment cost, estimated return on investment, overall carbon reduction, and stream flow temperature of heat recovery options.
- Research energy usage at the Recycling Plant and determine what options may be available to reduce usage.
- Work with other Denver Water groups to support energy reduction efforts at the Recycling Plant, where feasible.
- Report with findings to inform potential future project(s).
- Desire to work in field and office settings.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to follow confined space and other safety-related processes and procedures.
