Internship Project Description
This intern will join Water Quality & Treatment within the division of Operations & Maintenance. The internship will focus on source water treatability and duties will be split between a variety of working locations. Ultimately, the goal of this project is to better understand the relationship between filter clogging phytoplankton, raw water sources in Denver Water’s south system, and filter performance at Foothills Water Treatment Plant. Primary responsibilities will include:

Primary responsibilities will include:
- Perform sample collections in the watershed to characterize phytoplankton communities.
- Identify and enumerate phytoplankton using FlowCam Cyano analyzer. Build out the instruments library for classifying taxa using VisualSpreadsheet.
- Analyze trends in filter performance at Foothills Water Treatment Plant.
- Summarize findings and prepare detailed reports. Provide recommendations to appropriate stakeholders.
- Desire to work in field, laboratory, and office settings
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a team environment
- Strong attention to detail ensuring quality in all aspects of work
- Safe operation of vehicles, boats, and trailers
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Basic understanding of water quality, watershed science, and microscopic organisms
- Ability to plan methodically, analyze information, and make informed conclusions
