DutiesExercise control and oversight to 150-165 USDA Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA) related advisory committees, boards and commission programs for all USDA agencies and its components.Carry out the duties outlined in Section 1007(b) of FACA, which includes authority for selecting advisory committee members, exercising control and supervision over the establishment procedures, and accomplishments of advisory committees.Advise and coordinate key policy development and implementation initiatives throughout the Department and within USDA agency components.Lead strategic initiatives to address opportunities to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of agency programs.Provide guidance and leadership to program and policy initiatives with responsibilities including program planning and performance evaluation.Provides leadership and directs staff by ensuring performance goals are set and met for staff members. For this position, the specialized experience is ensuring Federal advisory committees are in full compliance with the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA) regulatory requirements, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and other administrative and ethics laws; advising and coordinating key policy development and implementation initiatives; supervising a staff of subordinates.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
