This position is responsible for daily maintenance, abstracting, reporting and auditing with concurrent and discharge reviews for the clinical records of individuals residing at the facility. This position is also accountable for the timely filing and/or scanning of documentation and reports are utilized to ensure immediate availability for continuity of care of the individual as well as purging or thinning of the charts according to established retention schedules. This position is responsible for monthly census reconciliation and daily census reporting. This position is responsible for release of information and compliance with HIPAA laws and regulations by ensuring the confidentiality of sensitive patient information by making sure that only those directly involved with a patient care are able to access protected information. Aswell as making sure that they have HIPAA compliant authorizations that are complete, accurate and compliant. Also, there are many HIM clerical duties that go along with the responsibility of being a HIM Specialist like, ordering, form maintenance, faxing, mailing and chart maintenance for downtime. This position also requires support for the HIM technicians, coverage for unit tasks and training as assigned. Position will follow established policies, procedures and professional guidelines to perform various health information activities necessary for the organization and maintenance of the medical record all while ensuring confidentiality of patient information. The ideal candidate will be self-starter with the ability to multi-task and work independently as well as in a team environment. Core job functions receives medical records, checks for completeness and files according to alpha system in appropriate locations. Uses systems and database to maintain an accurate and complete records. Performs qualitative/quantitative audits of both active and closed active and closed records and alerts providers to deficiencies. This position demonstrates excellent customer services through contact with both internal and external customers while providing general information and other service. This hospital uses EHR and employee is responsible to purchase uniform scrubs .
Minimum Qualifications
Experience in healthcare setting as medical record specialist
Ability to maintain confidentiality related to patient information and administrative issues as required.
Demonstrated knowledge of filing systems, data entry, and maintaining chart integrity.
Experience and knowledge of HIPAA privacy act, rules, and regulations
Experience with Microsoft Office
Additional Considerations
Demonstrated ability to create and manipulate Excel spreadsheets, create reports, and analyze data preferred.
