This position is located in the District of Columbia Government, Department of Buildings (DOB), with primary responsibility in the Office of Construction and Building Standard. The incumbent is responsible for managing compliance programs, coordinating inspections, and ensuring enforcement actions align with applicable codes and regulations. Incumbent oversees the daily field and inspection operations within the Illegal Construction Division to ensure compliance with the D.C. Building Construction Codes. Additionally, incumbent analyzes and evaluates program performance, identifies areas for improvement, and provides management with recommendations to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of operations within the assigned area.
Duties and Responsibilities
Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedule for meeting deadlines. Assigns tasks based on priorities, develops performance standards and evaluates subordinates’ work. Provides guidance, counseling, and instruction on both work related and administrative matters. Interviews candidates for positions within the unit and recommends appointments, promotions, or reassignments. Implements minor disciplinary actions, such as warnings and reprimands, while recommending further action for more serious cases.
Identifies employees’ developmental and training needs, providing or arranging for necessary training and development. Seeks opportunities to enhance productivity and improve quality of the work directed. Oversees the work progress of subordinates and offers guidance to improve performance. Evaluates and advises on organization, methods, and procedures. Directs the allocation of resources to achieve timely outcomes and measurable goals within budget; adjusts plans and programs to address emerging or new programs while maintaining focus on key program priorities.
Qualifications and Education
Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.
