What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Ranger Supervisor position at Department of Conservation and Recreation?
Overview
High Bridge State Park is accepting applications for the Maintenance Ranger Supervisor. In this position, you will have an opportunity to utilize your skills while connecting with your love for nature and the outdoors. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of equipment, repairs, as well as other mechanical skills. This includes an aptitude in small engine maintenance/repair and the ability to work toward goals to ensure the park and facilities are well-cared for and adequate to support the daily operations. This position requires the ability to follow directions, take initiative, and responsibly maintain and operate tools and equipment.
Duties and expectations include: Mowing, weed eating, cleaning bathrooms, trash removal, light construction, etc; working independently on tasks; performing routine maintenance on mowers and other groundskeeping equipment and tools; supervising and training Maintenance Rangers and volunteers; competently using all power tools (gas and electric); basic carpentry as it applies to repairs to bridges and other structures throughout the park; driving and operating utility tractors with all implements; passing UTV training and showing competence in use on the trail; driving truck/trailer combo with various loads and showing proficiency in reverse operation; and working outside in all weather conditions and temperature extremes.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Possess a combination of experience and/or training in one or more of the following areas: maintenance of building, grounds, and equipment; general knowledge of the use and care of common hand tools and various cleaning supplies/equipment.
Additional Considerations
- Grounds maintenance and equipment operation experience.
- Experience leading or supervising others.
- Currently possess Registered Technician applicators license for herbicide through VDACS.
- Currently possess limbing and bucking sawyers certificate through Virginia State Parks.
Special Requirements
Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver's license. Incumbent may be required to perform other park related duties during emergencies such as storm clean up, or on a non-recurring basis such as special events. 8-hour shift or flexible shifts available, day shift or weekends available. Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1500 hours from May 1 to April 30. Registered Technician applicators license for herbicide through VDACS or ability to obtain upon hire required. Possess limbing and bucking sawyers certificate through Virginia State Parks required or ability to obtain upon hire.

A valid State Driver's License is required to operate a state vehicle or if operating a personal vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the agency.
