Job Description:
This is a part-time temporary assignment is scheduled to last through June 30, 2025 and will work 10-15 hours a week. The salary listed above will be prorated to reflect the part-time hours worked.
This temporary assignment does not include the typical benefits available for employees. However, temporary employees may be eligible for employee health benefits offered through the Public Employees Benefit Board (PEBB) as outlined in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

The
Department of Consumer and Business Services
(DCBS) is a progressive business regulatory state agency dedicated to the mission of protecting and serving Oregon's consumers and workers while supporting a positive business climate. The department administers state laws and rules governing workers' compensation, occupational safety and health, financial institutions, insurance companies and building codes. The department has consumer protection and education programs, offices, and ombuds to help consumers, injured workers, and businesses.
This temporary position is with the Central Services Division (CSD). CSD is responsible for providing accounting, budgeting, collections, procurement, facilities management, information technology, human resources, and research services to the department.
This temporary position is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

Due to the nature of the duties performed by this temporary position, remote work is not available.
Here’s what you will do:
As a temporary Office Specialist 1, you will provide clerical, technical, and administrative support for the collection of survey data for the US Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) designed Survey of Occupational Illnesses and Injuries (SOII), and serve as a member of the SOII Survey Team. Under the leadership of division survey analyst, you may be responsible for some, or all, of the following:
- Opening survey mail and routing appropriately
- Answering the Survey Hot Line
- Contacting employers by phone or in writing for correction and clarification of survey data
- Reviewing survey documentation for accuracy and compliance with established criteria
- Ensuring that all necessary documentation is provided and complete
- Performing data entry duties for completed case information and survey data
- Reviewing and conducting mailing address corrections (refinement) for surveys
- Providing other support as required to assist in the timely completion of surveys
- Performing position duties in a manner which promotes customer service and harmonious working relationships, including treating all persons courteously and respectfully
- Engaging in effective team participation through willingness to assist and support co-workers, supervisors, and other work-related associations
- Developing good working relationships with agency staff and supervisors
- Demonstrating openness to constructive feedback and suggestions, in an effort to strengthen work performance
- Contributing to a positive, courteous, and productive work environment
- Fostering and promoting the importance and value of a diverse, discrimination- and harassment-free workplace
- Respecting diversity of opinions, ideas, and cultural differences

Here’s what you need to qualify:
Minimum Qualifications:
- One year of general clerical experience that includes keyboarding, word processing, or other experience generating documents
OR
- An equivalent combination of experience and college coursework or training in a general office occupation
Requested Skills:
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, occasionally with challenging personalities
- Demonstrated experience courteously assisting customers, both verbally and in writing
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong skills in proofreading data for accuracy
- Ability to work independently as well as participate as a member of a team
