Job Duties
Virginia Energy is seeking to hire a Coal Programs GIS Coordinator. The position will manage the mapping, GIS and GPS activities of Virginia Energy Mined Land Repurposing (MLR) Title V and Coal Mine Safety (CMS) programs, as well as the MLR permit review process as it pertains to the mapping and GIS databases. Additionally, it ensures that Coal Surface Mining Permits comply with the GIS and Mapping standards and policies outlined by Virginia’s mineral extraction and reclamation programs.

Minimum Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge and working experience in GIS, GPS and Remote Sensing methods and equipment.
- Proficient in ArcGIS Pro and ESRI software suite, with hands-on experience in spatial data analysis, map creation, geoprocessing tools, and data visualization
- Working knowledge and experience in surface and underground mine mapping, geospatial technology, and energy/mineral extraction industries.
- Experience collaborating across multiple program areas to assess GIS needs, enhance communication, and optimize workflows.
- Experience establishing policies and procedures
- Experience providing guidance and technical assistance
- Demonstrated ability to interpret environmental data, for example, in reclamation plans, water monitoring and complaint investigations.
- Ability to meet and coordinate program activities with local, state and federal authorities; to prepare and present professional oral and written reports.
- Knowledge of environmental principles and regulations, mining practices, laws and regulations
- Knowledge of spatial database systems.
