Hiring two temporary positions: one in Brookings and one in Charleston. Anticipated duration May 1, 2025 – October 31, 2025

As a Biological Science Assistant – Port Sampler, you will:
  • Collect biological samples of marine finfish, including live fish, and shellfish dockside, and occasionally at sea
  • Collect and code fish delivery tickets and fishing vessel logbooks from fish processing plants and vessel skippers
  • Provide liaison between fishing industry, public and fishery management, research and enforcement agencies

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Minimum qualifications are not established for this position; however, we are seeking applicants with the following experience or skills. Preference for interviews may be given to candidates with these skills and background:
  • Experience monitoring commercial fisheries
  • Experience identifying marine fish species
  • Experience collecting and accurately recording field data
  • Computer skills
  • Customer service experience
  • Anyone who has or are in pursuit of a Fisheries or Wildlife Science degree or related degree in biological/ecological sciences.

  • The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect an additional 6.95%.
