What are the responsibilities and job description for the ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST position at Department of Fish and Wildlife?

The Fish Restoration Program is seeking a motivated, self-starter to work as an Environmental Scientist. The Fish Restoration Program is part of an interagency group tasked with restoring 8,000 acres of tidal wetlands within the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. The Environmental Scientist will work with program staff to manage tidal wetland habitats on restoration properties. This position will be responsible for implementing land management plans, on the ground land management, monitoring habitat response to management activities, maintaining equipment, planning and carrying out invasive species control, and reporting. The Environmental Scientist will also act as the lead person for the Wildlife Habitat Assistant, mentor new program staff and oversee contractors as needed.
In order to be eligible for this position, you must either be transfer eligible or take and pass the following exam.

Working Conditions
Work in inclement weather conditions, operating boats and four-wheel drive vehicles on narrow levees and roads. Hike up to two miles on uneven, potentially muddy terrain. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds. Work schedule and hours will vary as field work is scheduled based on the tides and type of work being conducted. Must be able to maintain a California commercial driver’s license capable of hauling program equipment and maintain a Qualified Applicator License for pesticide spraying. Wearing a Department of Fish and Wildlife uniform may be required as a condition of employment while conducting field work and public work duties.
