As a Natural Resource Specialist 2 – Willamette Wildlife Mitigation Project Biologist at the Sauvie Island Wildlife Area, you will:
  • Assist with managing the West Region’s Willamette Wildlife Mitigation Program by serving as the primary program representative for the North Willamette Watershed District (NWWD)
  • Coordinate and implement restoration and management activities at Palensky Wildlife Area and Flight’s End properties
  • Develop and review land management plans for ODFW and partner WWMP-funded properties
  • Use GIS to manage data, develop maps of property management activities, and for planning and reporting purposes
  • Assist with management of mitigation sites by providing habitat management, technical assistance, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting for sites in the NWWD
  • Assist partners, the public, other agencies, and department staff with all aspects of the program.

This position requires an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Safety Education Card, Boater Education Certificate, and Public Pesticide Applicator License (PPAL) within the first six months of appointment.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Minimum Qualifications
Two years of biological experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program that included one year of at least two of the following: gathering data, analyzing data, or preparing reports, and a Bachelor's degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science, or a closely related Bachelor’s degree with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours of biological/ecological coursework; or three additional years of biological experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program;
-OR-
One year biological experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program that included at least two of the following: gathering data, analyzing data, or preparing reports, and a Master's degree Fisheries or Wildlife Science, or a closely related Master’s degree in biological/ecological sciences;
-OR-
A Doctorate degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science, or a closely related Doctorate degree in biological/ecological sciences.
Applicants who have obtained a Master’s degree or Doctorate that included work experience from an internship, work/study, thesis, or similar program may list this experience in their application to receive credit for the work experience. The Master’s degree/Doctorate and applicable work experience will be considered separately, and both the education and applicable experience may count toward minimum qualifications.

  • Experience designing, conducting and/or overseeing wildlife habitat restoration and enhancement activities
  • Experience using chemical and mechanical treatments to control vegetation; hold public pesticide applicator license
  • Experience using GIS mapping programs
  • Experience collecting and managing data
  • Experience writing and reviewing reports and/or management plans
  • Experience managing contracts
  • Familiarity with local native and non-native plants
  • Experience operating equipment such as tractors, skid steers, chainsaws, ATVs etc. to conduct habitat enhancement

  • The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect an additional 6.95%
