What are the responsibilities and job description for the BRAND INSPECTOR position at Department of Food & Agriculture?
- Traveling by car, inspect cattle for identifying marks and brands for the prevention of theft and verify ownership.
- Collects inspection fees at the time of inspections and forwards personal check (for cash collected), money order or cashier’s check to the Cashier’s office in Sacramento on a weekly basis.
- Respond to requests for information from the public, livestock industries, law enforcement, and other governmental agencies.
- Review and apply the appropriate laws, regulations, and policies of the Department and of various local, State, and Federal government agencies in all aspects of assigned duties and responsibilities.
- Examine bills of sale and/or other documents to determine proper proof of ownership.
- Work closely with the accounting unit in headquarters for inspection fee accountability and reconciliation.
- Submit all brand inspection reports, inspector’s daily reports, inspection certificates, crime reports, stray reports, estray reports, notice of violations and revenue transmittals on a weekly basis.
- Assist other law enforcement agencies on cattle theft investigations; work closely with animal control agency to identify loose or stray animals.
- Work closely with other states to assist in the enforcement of brand inspection laws on cattle movement interstate
- Take proactive steps on animal care issues
- Follow preventive procedures as indicated on the Preventative Maintenance Schedule (Form OFA-35)
