What are the responsibilities and job description for the SUPERVISING VETERINARIAN (GENERAL) position at Department of Food & Agriculture?
- Strategically lead and implement activities related to Branch programs, ensuring compliance with departmental laws, regulations, and policies.
- Interpret and enforce regulatory compliance while providing guidance on departmental policies and procedures.
- Provide strategic leadership and professional development to District staff through mentoring, coaching, and performance management.
- Evaluate employee performance and assist staff with the creation of individual development plans, taking appropriate disciplinary action as necessary
- Develop and participate in emergency preparedness events, such as training, exercises, seminars, workshops, and development of procedures (i.e., SOPs).
- Traveling by vehicle and other transportation, lead emergency response efforts for disease outbreaks, implementing rapid containment and control measures
- Maintain a broad knowledge of livestock care issues in California
- Travel by car and by other means to respond and participate in field investigations related to livestock care and welfare complaints
- Develop and deliver comprehensive reports and analyses for USDA, CDFA, and other agencies, ensuring clear communication of program outcomes.
- Review, update, produce, and maintain the Branch's standard operating procedures (field manual) and policies that direct Branch activities.
- Analyze, provide comments for, or respond to letters, legislation, regulations, and inquiries that may affect the programs or functions of the Branch
- Prepare technical papers and scientific articles for publication when necessary

Working Conditions
- Working in livestock facilities at various locations including saleyards and milking parlors
- Inspecting livestock at farms, ranches, and saleyards or other livestock facilities
- Taking samples from livestock at farms, ranches, saleyards or other livestock facilities
- Frequent travel by State vehicle or other modes of transportation to various locations in the district
- Occasional travel to other areas of the State, out-of-State, or out-of-country for assignments, exercises, or meetings
