The Department of General Service Office of Facilities Management (OFM) is looking for 3 Housekeeping Inspectors to ensure a clean, safe, and healthy environment for tenants, occupying facilities owned by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
OFM is responsible for over 40 buildings and operates and maintains about 6.45 million square feet of buildings and grounds at the seat of government to include the Governor’s Mansion, Virginia State Capitol, General Assemble and Capitol Square. DGS ensure tenants receives high quality, cost defective and timely services to affect a clean, safe, efficient, and comfortable environment in and around the buildings it manages.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting walk-throughs of assigned properties, including Parking Decks and Surface Lots, to physically inspect contract custodial services that are performed by the contract vendor at various locations within or outside their assigned buildings.
- Applying appropriate cleaning techniques, procedures and communication/interpersonal skills while working with the contract vendor supervisor to ensure compliance according to specifications.
- Maintaining an inventory of supplies that are purchased by DGS.
These positions will work an assigned schedule of 3:45 pm – 11:45 pm Monday-Friday. Occasional weekend and holiday work will also be required.

Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Virginia driver’s license (or able to obtain VA license within 60 days of employment).
- Experience performing a variety of cleaning tasks, such as sweeping, dusting, or mopping.
- Knowledge and training in cleaning techniques, methods, materials, and equipment for a wide variety of surfaces and materials.
- Knowledge of safety practices in the use of cleaning chemicals and supplies.
- Knowledge of power cleaning equipment, such as floor buffers and vacuums.
- Ability to evaluate the work of contract personnel.
- Strong interpersonal, conflict management, and oral and written communication skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relations with others.
- Experience using computers, including experience with email, word processors such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs, and spreadsheets such as Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
- Demonstrated ability to perform manual labor; stand/walk for extended periods; routinely lift, push, or pull 20 pounds; and occasionally lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to manage time effectively.
- Strong attention to detail.
Additional Considerations
- Supervisory experience.
- Housekeeping inspection experience.
- Experience operating power cleaning equipment such as floor buffers and vacuums.
- Experience with floor care, including stripping, waxing, and/or shampooing floors.
