The Medical and Psychological Screening Division (MPSD) is seeking an experienced Psychologist to conduct preemployment psychological evaluations of peace officer candidates. Under the general direction of the Chief Psychologist in the Psychological Screening Program (PSP in the Medical and Psychological Screening Division) (MPSD) of the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR), the Psychologist is responsible for applying psychological knowledge in a multi-step process to assess the psychological suitability of peace officer and non-peace officer candidates during the selection process. The Psychologist must conduct psychological suitability assessments using criteria set forth by the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) manual.
This position may extend up to 24 months or become permanent.

- The position(s) require(s) a(n) Psychologist License. You will be required to provide a copy of your license prior to being hired.
1. Describe how your professional experience will enable you to develop the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to effectively conduct preemployment psychological assessments of law enforcement candidates while working collaboratively as part of a team of psychologists. Please provide examples to illustrate your points.
2. The Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training requires peace officer candidates to be evaluated for explicit and implicit bias against race or ethnicity, gender, nationality, religion, disability, or sexual orientation. Explain your understanding of how this is relevant to public safety and public trust.

You need to provide a written explanation of how your experience, education, and training qualifies you for the position. You need to show how you have the desirable qualifications. - Knowledge of assessing written psychological tests to measure psychopathology, personality traits, and suitability for peace officer work
- Knowledge of principles of effectively conducting clinical structured psychological interviews
- Knowledge of test construction and validation procedures
- Knowledge of the application of screening methodology and procedures to specialized law enforcement populations
- Knowledge of the psychology of implicit bias
- Ability to prepare, review, and edit written reports
- Ability to review and incorporate information from collateral sources
- Ability to present ideas clearly, logically, and persuasively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
- Ability to manage time and prioritize workload independently
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to conduct research to maintain current knowledge of relevant information related to the practice of peace officer selection and related psychological concepts
