Summary of Duties
As an employee working in the
Self-Sufficiency Program
(SSP), you will have an opportunity to provide resources and services to help people move out of poverty and toward whole well-being. The goal of the Self-Sufficiency Program is to help families address barriers and gain skills and access to employment opportunities to become self-sufficient.As a Family Coach (Human Services Case Manager), you will:
- Conduct interviews to determine family need.
- Explore alternate resources and link clients to community services.
- Issue appropriate support payments.
- Engage and empower clients in family evaluation of strengths.
- Jointly develop a case plan and identify the steps the family will take towards self-sufficiency and meeting their basic needs.
- Monitor progress, needs, and make necessary modifications to the case plan.
- Initiate and participate in case staffing, employment readiness, life skills training, and support job search as needed.
An additional role of the Family Coach is to assist with crisis and safety planning for individuals experiencing domestic violence. The Family Coach completes program eligibility and if appropriate, issues grant payments. They may also assist with providing resources and services within the community.

Minimum Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in a Behavioral Science, Social Science, or a closely related field; OR
- A Bachelor's degree in any field and one year of human services related experience (i.e., work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, disabilities, prevention, health, cultural competencies, inadequate housing); OR
- An Associate degree in a Behavioral Science, Social Science or a closely related field AND two years of human services related experience (i.e., work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, disabilities, prevention, health, cultural competencies, inadequate housing); OR
- Three years of human services related experience (i.e., work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, disabilities, prevention, health, cultural competencies, inadequate housing).
- Must have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Family Coaches work duties take them into the community to work with Oregon families and meet with community partners. They will have access to state vehicles to perform these duties, so an acceptable driving record is required. ADA requests for alternate & acceptable transportation can be made during the interview.

- Trauma Informed - Knowledge of the impact of trauma on others and yourself, understanding and utilizing tools to support self and others in regulating during times of stress; as well as identifying and supporting the system change needed to reduce re-traumatization.
- Community & Family Focused - Knowledge of community resources which serve the needs of diverse and marginalized communities. Assisting diverse populations. Ability to follow through with building relationships and trust with vulnerable families. Understanding the challenges and taking a trauma informed approach in all interactions.
- Time Management/Flexibility - Skilled in organizing and putting work in priority order. Ability to complete tasks/duties timely while also managing competing priorities, obligations, and deadlines effectively. Has the capacity to effectively adjust to change quickly and calmly. Willingness to adapt to new or unexpected circumstances as they arise.
- Active Listening and Emotional Intelligence - Skilled in listening without judgment, respectfully paying attention to the feelings being expressed with empathy and compassion. An ability to seek understanding and adjust communication/feedback as appropriate to the situation at hand.
- Critical Thinking – Ability to collaboratively research and solve complex problems in alignment with program policies and procedures. While making trauma-informed decisions in delivering casework services to individuals, families, and groups.

Working Conditions
- Position is fast paced at times.
- High volume of individual and family contact.
- You will be exposed to a diverse range of customers and will need to respond with compassion and professionalism through a trauma informed lens.
- You will have contact with a range of people including some who may be experiencing emotional and financial stress.
- You will work with domestic violence survivors. These situations may be stressful and understanding self-care and available resources are important.
- Employee's work is conducted in offices, participant's homes, and other community sites.
- Hours of work may vary from day to day and may include evenings and weekends.
- Overtime must be pre-approved.
- Must have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. If no driver's license, must be able to provide alternate method of transportation. (When needing an ADA accommodation.) Family Coaches work duties take them into the community to work with Oregon families and meet with community partners. They will have access to state vehicles to perform these duties, so an acceptable driving record is required.
- This is not a remote position.
