We are seeking multiple limited duration Temp Lodging Specialists (Social Service Assistant) to join our Child Welfare team in Beaverton.
This is a limited duration position and is scheduled to end on 06/30/2025. Limited-duration employees eligible for benefits.

Summary of Duties

As a Temp Lodging Specialist, you will:
  • Oversee daily activities: Ensure the safety, hygiene, well-being, and care of youth in temporary lodging, including school attendance and appointments.
  • Provide Behavioral Support: Offer redirection and guidance to youth as needed.
  • Transport Youth: Provide transportation for youth to school, appointments, and social activities.
  • Coordinate Activities: Coordinate for temporary lodging supervision and activities.
  • Identify Services: Recommend necessary services to caseworkers for case planning.
  • Gather Information: Collect and document information objectively from case providers, clients, family members, schools, and other relevant sources to support family time planning.
  • Ensure Safety and Well-being: Safeguard the safety and well-being of youth.
Minimum Qualifications
  • One year experience assisting professionals in one or more specialized social programs such as family services, children services, senior services, mental or developmental disability services, substance abuse programs, juvenile corrections programs, or occupational skills programs; OR
  • Possession of a current certification in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Addiction Counseling Preparation, or Juvenile Corrections; OR
  • 45 quarter hours, or 30 semester hours of college course work in sociology, psychology, early childhood education, criminal justice, human services, juvenile corrections, or occupational skills training; OR
  • An Associate's degree in a field not closely related to Social Work/Human Services and six months of human services related experience (i.e., work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, mental or physical disabilities, juvenile prevention, health, cultural competencies, and/or inadequate housing).

  • Experience with engaging diverse individuals, de-escalating tense situations, and maintaining boundaries while effectively communicating needs to caseworkers and coordinators.
  • Experience with collaborating with co-staff and other team members, ensuring seamless care and support for children and families.
  • Experience with clearly communicating with team members and leads to ensure efficient operations and quality care.
  • Experience with applying equitable practices and trauma-informed care in interactions with clients.
  • Experience with adjusting seamlessly to changing environments and shifting priorities.
  • Experience with identifying problems and generating effective solutions.

Working Conditions
  • Work Locations: Offices, homes of participants, and community sites, and hotels.
  • Travel: Occasional travel for meetings, trainings, and other case related activities, including required occasional overnight travel. Travel is also required for transporting children and/or families/parents to appointments.
  • Hours: This position requires coverage of shifts Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, with flexibility to work early or late as needed, and occasional weekend availability.
  • Physical Requirements: Frequent physical activity, including lifting up to 50 pounds and assisting children with car seats.
  • This role involves handling sensitive topics related to trauma, abuse, and crises, requiring a trauma-informed approach that is essential to ensure a safe environment.
  • You may interact with individuals who have experienced trauma and may have difficulty managing their emotions.
  • Be prepared for stressful situations that require quick decision-making to ensure safety for yourself and others.

  • The Oregon Department of Human Services does not offer visa sponsorship.   • Finalists must be cleared by the FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) through a fingerprint-based criminal records check.
