Position Summary

This position will perform entry-level cybersecurity analysis work. The work involves protecting cybersecurity assets and delivering cybersecurity incident detection, incident response, threat assessment, cyber intelligence, and software security services. This position works under supervision, with little latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Employees at this level will rely on direction from others to solve problems that are not standard. Employees may also assist other staff in performing work of greater complexity.

  • Supports the overall security operations program.
  • Monitors and analyzes cybersecurity alerts from cybersecurity tools, network devices, and information systems.
  • Monitors and maintains cybersecurity infrastructure and/or policies and procedures to protect information systems from unauthorized use.
  • Designs, develops, modifies, tests, and integrates database or computer hardware systems to protect against cyber threats.
  • Performs cybersecurity incident detection, analysis, and prevention. Works as a first responder to security incidents across DIR’s shared services programs.
  • Performs forensic analysis of network traffic logs and security tools to support incident investigations.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of cybersecurity vulnerabilities, exploits, and threats especially emerging threats.

Qualifications
Education
  • A student currently enrolled in Austin Community College as an upper-division level (junior or senior) undergraduate, with a major or course work in cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, or a related field.
  • Must possess academic performance that is considered in good academic standing by college/university standards.
Experience and Training Preferred
  • Experience with or knowledge of Windows servers and Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with or knowledge of general networking protocols and equipment.
  • Experience in IT support.
  • Experience with or knowledge of security controls and toolsets.
  • Experience with security policy development and implementation.
  • Experience in implementing security platforms, processes, and tools.
  • Experience with detecting and assessing threats such as network and asset vulnerabilities.
Your Skills

We are interested in students with skills in the following:

  • Knowledge of the limitations and capabilities of computer systems and technology; technology across all mainstream networks, operating systems, and application platforms.
  • Knowledge of operational support of networks, operating systems, Internet technologies, databases, and security applications and infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity and information security controls, practices, procedures, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of information security practices, procedures, and regulations.
  • Proficiency in the use of a computer and applicable software necessary to perform work assignments e.g., word processing, spreadsheets (Microsoft Office preferred).
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cordial working relationships at all organizational levels, including agency management, direct supervisors, co-workers, internal and external customers.
