The Yvonne B. Miller School is seeking a candidate to provide quality educational programming through sound instruction to meet the individual needs of residents/students, as well as the standards defined under the Commonwealth’s statutes and program certification requirements. This position will provide instruction and engage students in a quality, competency-based program preparing students for entry-level employment and/or post-secondary education.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment to successfully perform the work
  • Ability to supervise students and youth, facilitate appropriate classroom management, and maintain accurate records
  • Bachelor’s degree in Earth Science; or completed a major in Earth science, geology, or environmental science with a minimum of 32 semester hours in Earth sciences, including at least one course in each of the following areas: structural geology, petrology, paleontology, oceanography, meteorology, and astronomy/space science; or earned an endorsement in another science discipline and completed at least 18 semester hours in Earth sciences, including at least one course in each of the following areas: structural geology, petrology, paleontology, oceanography, meteorology, and astronomy/space science
  • Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching Certificate/License with an endorsement(s) in Earth Science

Additional Considerations

  • Experience as a science teacher in a secondary setting
  • Experience teaching at-risk youth preferred
