Job Duties
Supervises, coordinates, and directs assigned unit staff, programs, and services for the assigned residents. Ensures the effective implementation of supervision, security, and treatment best practices to provide residents with a safe living environment conducive to growth and change.
Core Responsibilities: Not limited to
- Ensures staff receive constructive informal and formal documented feedback in a timely manner to include coaching, training, performance planning; Evaluations are completed within established deadlines and with proper documentation.
- Maintains signed acknowledgment forms for SOP review and training; Submits acknowledgement forms to Security Manager as requested in accordance with stated deadlines
- Monitors and directs resident behavior to promote positive interactions and ensure residents are free from abuse, neglect, victimization, and/or violation of his/her rights.
- Monitors and ensures the completion and documentation of the orientation process for residents.
- Intervenes in behavioral crisis situations to ensure safety through the use of de-escalation strategies and techniques.
- Completes and/or monitors completion of all administrative and program documentation (such as time sheets, leave forms, Cardinal, incident reports, logbook entries, various forms, etc.) legibly, completely, timely, and accurately.
- Reviews logbooks to ensure staff are properly completing them. Signs off at the end of the month in the back of the logbook, documenting that the logbooks have been reviewed and are complete.
Must have completed DJJ’s Basic Skills for Direct Care Staff training. Must successfully complete Department of Juvenile Justice mandated training and certifications, to include physical elements. Demonstrate the ability to work independently and to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Must possess considerable experience supervising and interacting with juveniles in a secure/ residential setting. Must have valid driver’s license by time of employment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Considerable knowledge of employee development techniques, and security procedures
- Knowledge of the principles, supervisory techniques, and practices of group facilitation and management of programs in a residential setting
- Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, organize, and supervise unit staff, and residents
- Demonstrated ability to review and evaluate records and reports; and to guide the implementation of programming based on the progress of residents
- Skilled in conflict resolution and in the use of verbal and physical intervention techniques
- Ability to apply evidence-based practices and case management procedures in the implementation of programs for residents
- Demonstrate ability to train, empower, and mentor staff
- Ability to coordinate interdisciplinary team members in the comprehensive delivery of programming
- Ability to perform physical intervention (restraint) techniques in accordance with procedure and training
