Electrical Technician

Primary Purpose:
Under general supervision, maintain, repair, and install electrical systems, services, and equipment for the district. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all electrical systems and fixtures in district facilities.


Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency)
One (1) year of electrical services training through an approved program
Clear and valid Texas driver’s license
Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.


Experience/Knowledge/Skills:
Experience working in public school environment
Knowledge of electrical circuits, wiring and operating principles of motors
Knowledge of current electrical codes and ordinances
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Ability to perform mathematical calculations
Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
Ability to use hand and power tools


Experience:
Minimum two years of experience in the electrical field preferred

Organization Improvement

  • Diagnose and resolve problems in electrical circuits, systems, and equipment and test continuity of circuits to ensure compatibility and safety of components.
  • Install and connect power supply wiring, cables, conduit, and electrical apparatus for machines and equipment in new andexisting facilities following diagrams, schematics, or blueprints.
  • Measure, assemble, and install electrical conduit using measuring devices, hand tools, pipe threader, and conduit bender.
  • Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established inspection procedures.
  • Repair or recommend replacement of electrical appliances, including commercial ovens, ranges, steam tables, washers, and dryers.
  • Receive and complete work orders in a timely manner. Select material and hardware and calculate time and materials estimates.
  • Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
  • Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing.
  • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment to make sure that equipment is in safe operating condition.


Organization Management
The electrician manages administrative, fiscal, and facilities functions responsibly through activities such as the following:

  • Complete repairs as requested on work orders

Qualities of Effective Maintenance Workers
The electrician exhibits effective qualities through activities such as the following:

  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job
  • Operate light truck and equipment; uses tools following established safety procedures
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in the area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately
  • Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required
  • Respond to emergency calls when requested
  • Shall comply with District policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations
  • Shall comply with the standards of conduct set out in Board Policy DH (Legal) and (Local) and with any other policies,
  • regulations, and guidelines that impose duties, requirements, or standards 


Supervisory Responsibilities:

Equipment:


Electrical measuring and testing equipment, power tools (drill, saw, etc.), hand tools, welder (gas and electric air), and light truck or van and other equipment applicable to position

  • Work irregular and extended work hours to include holidays and weekends
  • Continual walking, standing; frequent heavy lifting and carrying; climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching
  • Work outside and inside; exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, and odors
  • Exposure to mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards; Work around moving objects or vehicles
  • Occasional district wide and statewide travel
