Job Summary:
The Upper Peninsula Pocket Park is seeking a passionate and energetic Conservation Program Leader to join our team! This individual will be at the heart of our mission to connect the public with Michigan’s great outdoors through hands-on education and conservation-based activities. From helping families try archery or bait their first hook to leading nature programs and supporting major events like the U.P. State Fair, this role is perfect for someone who loves wildlife, working with people, and making a positive impact in the community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist and educate visitors in recreational activities such as fishing, archery, and pellet gun shooting in a safe, engaging manner.
- Plan, develop, and deliver fun and educational programs for all ages focused on outdoor recreation, conservation, and Michigan’s natural resources.
- Engage with the public during large-scale events, including the Upper Peninsula State Fair.
- Help organize and lead community events, workshops, and seasonal programming.
- Maintain equipment, supplies, and facilities, including regular cleaning and upkeep of the park grounds and activity areas to ensure a welcoming and safe environment.
- Provide friendly, informative customer service to park guests of all ages and backgrounds.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the park’s mission and team needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience or strong interest in wildlife, hunting, fishing, nature education, or outdoor recreation.
- Skills in public speaking, teaching, or leading groups.
- Bonus: Experience in social media management and content creation to help promote programs and share stories from the park (photos, reels, posts).
- Able to work well with a team and independently in a dynamic, outdoor-focused environment.
- Must be available during the U.P. State Fair in August, as well as weekends and holidays during the peak season.
