ARCHEOLOGICAL PROJECT LEADER (SEASONAL) – SAN DIEGO COAST DISTRICT / DISTRICT OFFICE

“Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKs program. The reporting location for this position is at 4477 Pacific Highway, San Diego, CA 92110, San Diego Coast District Office. This position will work under the close supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisor).

Work may include, site survey and recordation, monitoring wildfire vegetation management and other natural resource projects, construction monitoring, preparation of site record forms, processing collections, cataloging artifacts, archaeological excavation, assistance in map production using GIS equipment and ArcMap, report writing, and other related tasks. Applicant should have some archaeological work experience.

The following skills and abilities are desirable: Working knowledge of standard professional archaeological field and laboratory methods for both prehistoric and historic-period sites. Experience with various computer applications, in particular word processing and database programs. Experience in completing standard site recordation forms. Ability to identify sites and artifacts and evaluate various archaeological site types. Ability to work in harsh outdoor settings. The ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships with co-workers. Some background in the use of GPS equipment for site recordation work, or the ability to learn and apply new technology.

Applicants must be available to work in the San Diego Coast District office daily. This position can work 189 days in a 12 consecutive month period or a maximum of 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months per California Code of Regulation 265.1. This position is designated as not telework eligible.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

This position requires a valid Class C driver’s license. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.
