FORESTRY AIDE – BAY AREA DISTRICT / NATURAL RESOURCES
The reporting location for this position is the Bay Area District Office located at 845 Casa Grande Road, Petaluma, CA 94954 but will work districtwide based on operational needs. This position will work under the supervision of the Bay Area District Senior Environmental Scientist and works closely with district and lead field staff to assist with natural resource management and forestry and fire prevention related activities and projects.
This position works on a seasonal basis depending on project need and funding. During field and prescribed fire seasons, this position may work weekends, nights, and overtime hours. The incumbent’s work schedule will typically be from Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position can work 189 days in a 12 consecutive month period or a maximum of 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months per California Code of Regulation 265.1. This position is designated as not telework eligible.
This position assists with implementing, maintaining, and monitoring natural resource management projects designed to improve wildfire and forest resilience, maintain biodiversity, and protect park resources from wildfire. The FA position will perform manual labor to restore, protect and enhance CA State Park’s natural resources, often in remote locations away from roads and facilities. Duties include: assisting with field activities associated with forest management, prescribed burning, structure hardening and defensible space, vegetation succession and fuels management, restoration and protection of native species and vegetative communities, special status species management, exotic species control, watershed restoration; and project documentation, mapping and monitoring. This position will work districtwide based on operational needs.
The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

Per California Code of Regulations (CCR) 599.961, this is a sensitive position, and therefore subject to drug and alcohol testing.
