What are the responsibilities and job description for the SUPPORT SERVICES ASSISTANT (INTERPRETER) position at Department of Rehabilitation?
The Support Services Assistant (Interpreter), under direct supervision, facilitates communication between individuals with hearing impairments and hearing persons, serves as an interpreter; accompanies staff members to places of business where services are otherwise unavailable; perform interpreting services individually or in group settings; including hearings, for an audience, at an assembly or meeting or for consumers that are not state employees; may perform other duties as related to assisting in the communication process.
Under Government Code 14200, this position is a hybrid, in-office/telework position, and may be subject to change. Incumbent must live and work in California. Incumbent can be required to report to the office, or any designated location at any time. Telework agreements can be modified and/or cancelled at any time.

Special Requirements
- The position(s) require(s) fluency in the American Sign Language language. If the State of California does not have a current record documenting your fluency in this language, you will be required to successfully pass an approved language fluency test prior to being hired.
Employment Application (STD.678):
Permanent Intermittent employees are not allowed to work more than 1500 hours in a calendar year. The anticipated time worked will be 30 hours per week. If selected, the employee will receive an hourly compensation based on the number of hours worked.

Desirable Qualifications
Proficiency in facilitating communication between hearing impaired and hearing persons individually and/or in large groups using code of ethics established by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID).
Willingness to follow directions, sensitivity to the communication process and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
