CalRecycle is looking for an Accountant Trainee to join our team!

Under the direct Supervision of the Accounting Administrator 1 (Supervisor) Accounts Payable unit, the Accountant Trainee, in a learning capacity shall maintain a strong knowledge of practices, policies and procedures of the Accounting Office. The Accountant Trainee will perform a more difficult semi-professional accounting work associated with processing multi-funded grant payments in the new Financial Information System of California (FI$CAL), other accounting systems and applications such as Grant Management System (GMS). This also involves working with a multidisciplinary range of staff to ensure that all disbursements are made in accordance with all governing rules as well as working with vendors/grantee/staff to answer inquiries as to the status of payments. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in accounting operations, including analyzing reverting year documents, purchase order reconciliation,multi-funded grants and working with continuous appropriations.

Additional duties and functions may be assigned as needed. Assist with other team member's processing workloads whenever appropriate and practical.

This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location, as indicated on their duty statement, at their own expense.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

. Knowledge and experience with State and/or Private Accounting process, including 1-2 years' experience with auditing and processing invoice for payment.
. Knowledge of and /or experience with accounts payable process that includes, auditing, researching, analyzing, solving complex problems, expenditure tracking, reconciliation accounting information systems, and preparation of accounting batches and reports.
. Experience in accounting/financial record keeping, and knowledge of accounting
principles and procedures associated with California's accounting structure (e.g;accounts payable).
. Experience with financial accounting system such as Fi$cal, Quickbooks, or similar software.
. Education as it relates to Accounting or other related field such as Business/ Economics or Finance.
. Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Pivot Table,and/ or Adobe
. Knowledge and/ or understanding of policies, procedures and regulations; understanding of state fiscal policy, Uniform Codes Manual (UCM), the
State Administrative Manual (SAM).
