Reporting to the Classification and Compensation Program Manager, the Human Resources Specialist-Classification and Compensation plays a key role in supporting the efficient and effective administration of the classification and compensation programs for the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) and the statewide Local Departments of Social Services (LDSS) while developing foundational skills in job classification, compensation analysis, and HR processes. This position performs a variety of administrative support duties such as maintaining and organizing HR data and records related to classification and compensation programs, supporting the documentation and processing of employee and position transactions, assisting with data collection and information gathering, assisting with conducting audits of employee compensation data and practices, and responding to basic questions related to position classification, salary, and compensation policies and guidelines. Additionally, this position conducts routine position classification reviews, assists with the review, development, and maintenance of position descriptions and salary structures, assists with compensation analyses, and helps to ensure that pay actions adhere to compensation policies, guidelines, and relevant laws and regulations. This position also participates in special projects and assignments and supports various classification and compensation initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
- Considerable experience in an administrative or clerical role.
- Data entry experience.
- Experience in creating and maintaining files using an electronic filing system.
- Experience working with customers and co-workers either in person or via email or telephone in answering questions and problem-solving in response to customer inquiries.
Additional Considerations
- Possess HR certification (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP, SPHR, PHR).
- Work experience in a human resources environment.
- Experience with human resource systems.
- Familiarity with salary structures and job evaluation methods.
