The Department of State Hospitals-Atascadero is a secure public sector hospital providing inpatient forensic services for mentally ill adult males who are court committed throughout the State of California.
The Food Service Technician I (Safety) will be directed by the Food Service Supervisor I/II and/or the Supervising Cook I/II in Nutrition Services at the Department of State Hospitals – Atascadero (ASH). The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:
- Assist and participate in the preparation and distribution of food and beverages.
- Assist with the production and distribution of food while adhering to requirements for physical exertion, infection control, and food safety/Hazardous Analysis of Critical Control Points (HACCP).
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Maintain order, cleanliness, and sanitation in assigned area of responsibility.
- Adhere to requirements for safety, security, emergency response, a non-hostile work environment, and rights of patients.
- Participate in Performance Improvement activities and other miscellaneous responsibilities.
Knowledge of:
1. Methods of cleaning and preparing foods for cooking and storing food.
2. Proper methods of arranging dining room furniture, setting tables, and serving meals.
3. Various types of food service utensils and equipment and their uses.
4. Methods of cleaning and maintaining food service areas, utensils, and equipment.
5. Sanitation and safety measures in food service areas.
6. General pantry work.
Ability to:
1. Portion servings.
2. Follow directions and keep simple records.
3. Communicate at a level appropriate to the classification.
MINIMIUM QUALIFICATIONS: Six months of experience in an institution, hotel, or restaurant, either serving, cleaning food service areas, or assisting with the preparation and service of foods and beverages. (Completion of the eighth grade may be substituted for the required experience.)
