What are the responsibilities and job description for the FOOD SERVICE SUPERVISOR I position at Department of State Hospitals?
- Orient, monitor, evaluate, and apply the disciplinary process in order for employees to work at/above expected standards in meeting State/Hospital/Department requirements
- Observe, ensure, and directly assist as needed to provide: cafeteria-style meals in multiple dining rooms, on unit meals, nourishment deliveries, and unit meal events, as outlined in policies/procedures
- Monitor and intervene as needed to ensure adherence to requirements in infection control and food safety/Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP)
- Monitor, intervene, and directly assist as needed to ensure presentation areas, equipment, and utensils are orderly, clean, and sanitized as required
- Model, monitor, and intervene as needed to ensure adherence to requirements in safety, security, emergency response, and a non-hostile work environment
- Implement the patient labor program in Nutrition Services
In order to be considered for this job vacancy, you must satisfy one of the following requirements:
1. BE LIST ELIGIBLE: Successfully complete the competitive State civil service exam pertaining to this classification at Food Service Supervisor I Exam Bulletin, OR
2. BE TRANSFER ELIGIBLE: Have current employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable (employees who wish to be considered based on transfer eligibility must meet the minimum qualifications of the classification per DPA Rule 250), OR
3. BE REINSTATEMENT ELIGIBLE: Have obtained previous permanent employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable.
- Minimum qualifications will be verified prior to being scheduled for an interview. Please provide proof of minimum qualifications with your application submission, which may include a copy of your unofficial college transcripts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Either I: One year of experience performing the duties of a Food Service Worker II in the California state service.
Or II: Two years of experience performing the duties of a Food Service Worker I in the California state service.
Or III: Three years of experience in the distribution and service of foods in large quantity including the cleaning and maintaining of equipment and work areas. One year of this experience must have been in a supervisory capacity including responsibility for the training and assignment of food service employees and Education: Equivalent to completion of the eighth grade.
- If it is determined that an applicant does not meet the minimum qualifications, the applicant’s name may be removed from the eligibility list.

Working Conditions
Our facility is a 24-hour, 7 day a week facility. Positions filled may be assigned to any shift according to hospital need.
This position requires you to work within the Secured Treatment Area (STA).
