The Hospital General Services Administrator I will be directed by the Hospital General Services Administrator II in General Services at the Department of State Hospitals – Atascadero (ASH). The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:

  • Take effective corrective action as needed to ensure licensing, environmental health, and other governing body requirements are met.
  • Provide support in the procurement and bid process and assist as needed when purchasing items for the facility.
  • Be knowledgeable in the items that are procured and assist in service contract language.
  • Oversee the functioning of the Communications Department.
  • Oversee personnel practices such as following IDP's to ensure appropriate content, compliance and timeliness, current health screenings, FMLA packets are reviewed and completed within the required time frame.
  • Knowledge of computer applications and other software (On Track Inventory System, Fi$cal, Excel, and other applications as required).


In order to be considered for this job vacancy, you must satisfy one of the following requirements:
1. BE LIST ELIGIBLE: Successfully complete the competitive State civil service exam pertaining to this classification at Hospital General Services Administrator I, OR
2. BE TRANSFER ELIGIBLE: MUST meet the minimum qualifications of the classification per DPA Rule 250, have current employment with the State of California in the same classification with permanent or probationary status, or in a classification that is substantially the same with permanent or probationary status, OR
3. BE REINSTATEMENT ELIGIBLE: Have obtained previous permanent employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable.
4. BE T&D ELIGIBLE: Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One year of supervisory experience in the area of janitorial/housekeeping, laundry, transportation, clothing center management, procurement, property and equipment, ware housing, or business services. (Additional education in hospital or health care administration, or a one-year internship in a hospital or its equivalent, may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis) and Education: Equivalent to graduation from college. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on the basis of one year of experience for two years of education.

  • If it is determined that an applicant does not meet the minimum qualifications, the applicant’s name may be removed from the eligibility list.

The Department of State Hospitals – Atascadero is a secure public sector hospital providing inpatient forensic services for mentally ill adult males who are court committed throughout the State of California. Special Requirements

In addition to the Standard State Application (STD 678), all interested applicants are required to submit a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ).
