Under general direction of the Information Technology Manager (IT Mgr) I of zOS Storage, the Information Technology Specialist II (IT Spec II) performs a wide variety of tasks requiring innovative problem solving where guidance is not readily available. The IT Spec II will optimize and apply architecture solutions for the benefit of the overall organization and play a major role in advising management or formulating information technology strategy and policy within the organization.
The IT Spec II acts as an advanced level technical software support specialist working with a team of highly trained professionals in support of the storage components of a zSystem and client/server computing environment. Works independently, as a team leader or as a team member. Provides a variety of hardware and software support services for customer departments. Install, maintain, test, monitor, and tune complex Storage vendor software products and/or general purpose software products in these computing environments. Design, implement and maintain system architecture across multiple platforms. Identify infrastructure system requirements and recommend technology, hardware, software, and plans installation. Provide consultation and technical support as needed for the customer departments. Quickly, efficiently, and effectively troubleshoot and resolve complex customer problems and proactively identify possible future problems. Develop and maintain project plans in support of California Department of Technology (CDT) Strategic and Tactical Plans. May act as backup when the IT Mgr I is unavailable

Working Conditions
- Position may require the ability to be contacted for service outages or other emergencies.
- Must maintain consistent and predictable attendance.
- Position may require work outside of normal work hours.
- Some travel may be required for meetings, training and conferences.
- Must pass a fingerprint background criminal record check completed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

1. Please provide details of your technical experience and include specific examples as it relates to providing lead technical support over infrastructure and/or platform technologies (i.e., Mainframe, Storage, Network etc.).
2. Describe your background, knowledge, and experience with working on a team that supports the infrastructure that houses mission critical applications. Please provide details of your roles and responsibilities, and the skill sets you possess that contributed to the success of the team.
3. Describe your experience and ability developing a creative and innovative solution to a complex business problem which addressed a business problem or initiative.

- Knowledge of zSystem Storage technologies; DASD, Virtual Tape.
- Knowledge of DFSMS.
- Knowledge of JES2 and/or JES3 commands and zSystem file structures.
- Miscellaneous system tools or applications such as ESP, E(JES), TSO, ISPF, JCL, FTP, CLIST, REXX.
- Computer programming and scripting skills.
- Knowledge of Disaster/Operational Recovery.
- Network connection concepts for zSystems.
- PC software tools such as MS Access, Excel, Word, HTML, etc.
- Ability to work with technical and management staff, vendors, and customers.
- Experience working in a team environment.
- Good technical writing and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with change management principles.
- Innovative, forward-thinking individual.
