Summary
The primary purpose of this position is : To perform highly technical quality verification inspections (QVI) and personnel evaluations (PE) to assess the quality of maintenance processes associated with multiple discrete aircraft maintenance trades and aircraft systems, components, and sub-systems. Serves as subject matter expert on issues concerning general aircraft systems and related maintenance requirements.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS : Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8800, Aircraft Overhaul Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of a WG-8852 AIRCRAFT MECHANIC WORK INSPECTOR more than normal without supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS : Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and / or competencies in the following areas :
1. Knowledge of the theory and operating characteristics of airframes, aircraft systems, components, subsystems, and associated support equipment in the performance of QVIs and PEs to evaluate the quality of in-process and after-the-fact maintenance / inspection processes.
2. Knowledge of DOD, AF, and MAJCOM instructions, policies, and procedures as they apply to aircraft maintenance QA, MSEP, and other aircraft maintenance related processes and programs.
3. Knowledge of aircraft maintenance related safety regulations, practices, and procedures; various QA techniques, such as test, inspection, measurement, and trend analysis. Extensive knowledge and skill in servicing, maintaining, and troubleshooting various aircraft systems and related components, isolating malfunctions, and performing inspections to determine acceptable quality and airworthiness.
4. Skill in the use of applicable special tools and test equipment used to accomplish inspections of various critical aircraft systems and components; the use of standard computer operating systems and productivity software, such as word processing, spreadsheets, data bases, and presentation tools.
5. Skill in the use and documentation of aircraft maintenance related forms and databases such as the AFTO Form 781 series and Integrated Maintenance Data System.
6. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to read and interpret technical orders, manuals, product specifications, diagrams, schematics, and other technical information. Ability to interpret / evaluate inspection results and make determinations of acceptable quality levels and airworthiness for aircraft engine and airframe, as well as proficiency and qualification of personnel.
Physical Effort :
he work requires some physical exertion, such as extended periods of walking, standing, bending, climbing, and reaching in and out of aircraft, carrying relatively light items such as papers, books, small parts, tools, instruments, etc.; occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions :
Work is performed on the flight line and in various maintenance facilities, on work platforms / ladders, around moving machinery, high noise levels, and dust with possible exposure to oils, solvents, hydraulic fluids, and aircraft fuels. Working in these environments require the use of appropriate protective clothing or gear such as safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, etc. Work is also performed in a typical office setting, which involves common everyday risks and discomforts associated with such environments.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE : Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE : Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
