Job Description
Under general supervision, with latitude for independent judgment and initiative, oversees the maintenance and repair of a designated borough, dealing with roadways, highways, and related structures; or assumes responsibility for an important segment of a borough or citywide program of such maintenance and repair. Supervise Supervisor Highway Repairers and yard personnel. Oversee Street Maintenance crews and repair work, such as milling, paving and other resurfacing operations, snow removal activities as needed, investigate roadway defects and high-profile repairs, patrol roadways and arterials for storm damage/flood condition; take steps to make safe and resolve warranted conditions. Oversee Arterial Maintenance crews and repair work, such as lawn mowing, tree pruning, guiderail repair, fencing, attenuator placement, debris removal. Responsible for updating manual and electronic records. Visit work locations to inspect work in progress ensuring proper methods are being utilized and safety regulations are being adhered to, and to ensure effective productivity. Ensure that adequate safety measures are in place to safeguard both the work zone and the pedestrians. Give onsite instructions for corrective or alternate method. Conduct timely post inspection of completed work. Ensure subordinates are fairly and appropriately evaluated for job performance according to title, performance evaluations are administered consistently, collaborate with fellow supervisors to ensure subordinates are rated fairly and on schedule. When necessary, provide training, make recommendation for transfers and reassignments, review and approve timesheets and leave requests, conduct, and attend meetings, review and prepare productivity reports.

Minimum Qualifications
Four years of full-time satisfactory experience as a working member of a roadway or bridge/tunnel maintenance and repair crew using asphalt and concrete mixes; and/or performing such tasks as debris/bulk removal; mechanical sweeping, drain/scupper cleaning on bridges/tunnels or related structures, at least two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
Possession of a Class B Commercial Driver License valid in the State of New York with no restrictions on the use of air brakes. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
Four years of full-time satisfactory experience as a working member of a roadway or bridge/tunnel maintenance and repair crew using asphalt and concrete mixes; and/or performing such tasks as debris/bulk removal; mechanical sweeping, drain/scupper cleaning on bridges/tunnels or related structures, at least two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
Possession of a Class B Commercial Driver License valid in the State of New York with no restrictions on the use of air brakes. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
To be assigned to Assignment Level II, the candidate must have at least one year of experience working in Assignment Level I or an additional year of experience as described above under "Qualification Requirements", at least three years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
