About the Job
The Department of Transportation is seeking a highly skilled Aviation Accident Investigator to join our team. As an Aviation Accident Investigator, you will be responsible for conducting thorough and impartial investigations into aviation accidents and incidents, as well as developing and recommending policies and procedures governing aircraft accident and incident investigations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct investigations into aviation accidents and incidents to identify their causes and contributing factors.
- Collect and analyze evidence, including flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder transcripts, to support investigation findings.
- Draft and submit safety recommendations to prevent future accidents and promote aviation safety.
- Collaborate with industry stakeholders and other government agencies to improve aviation safety and develop best practices.
Requirements:
- A minimum of one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-I, FG/GS-13 in the General Inspection, Investigation, Enforcement, and Compliance Series.
- Experience investigating aviation accidents, incidents, malfunctions, or failures, with an emphasis on identifying risks and hazards.
- Ability to communicate complex technical information to a variety of audiences, including senior leaders.
- Experience influencing changes to policy, guidance, practices, and/or legislation.
