The role:
We are seeking litter patrol workers for our Youth Litter Patrol (YLP) Program! The program was founded in 1977 to help clean up the state highway right of way. Litter crews are made up of crew members and crew leaders. The crews primarily pick up litter along state highways although other tasks may be assigned. This is a great opportunity to work outdoors with a team and have a role in maintaining state highways, help the environment and learn about career opportunities at ODOT!
We welcome applications from anyone 16 years of age or older for crew member positions and 18 years of age or older for crew leader positions.

A day in the life:
- Pick up and bag litter along state highways.
- Lift and carry filled bag full of litter weighing up to 60 pounds.
- Speak and write to communicate about assigned tasks and potential roadside hazards.
- Follow ODOT safety procedures.
- Work in all types of weather and around traffic.
- The crew leader will additionally oversee work and will be responsible for transporting crew members from the ODOT office to the work site using a state vehicle and completing payroll forms for the crew.

What you need to be a crew member:
- At least 16 years old on the first day of your assignment.
What you need to be a crew leader:
- At least 18 years old on the first day of your assignment.
- Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
