What are the responsibilities and job description for the TRANSPORTATION SURVEYOR (CALTRANS) position at Department of Transportation?
Under the direction of a Transportation Surveyor Party Chief CT (Caltrans), the incumbent preforms a wide variety of professional land surveying work in a field setting. As incumbent progress in experience, the work assigned will be more difficult and the incumbent may function as a lead person over the activities of various surveying and technical personnel in the field. Incumbent at the journey level and with a license will work in a responsible charge capacity.

Working Conditions
Position located at 8115 Prunedale North Rd, Prunedale, Monterey County.
This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
Candidates that meet the minimum qualifications based on possession of an education, a Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT), or Land Surveyor (LS) certificate must include a copy of your degree/transcripts, LSIT, or LS certificate along with your State application (STD. 678) to be considered for this position.
New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Land Surveying License issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. For all other ranges, this is not required.
Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle.
