The Highlights:
The Manager of Investments works collaboratively with the university's Treasurer and external investment advisor to administer the university's investment portfolios under the oversight of the Board of Trustees. The Manager of Investments will share investment strategies and performance with the Board's Investment and Finance Committees at least quarterly. The university's investments total approximately $1.1 billion, with holdings in more than 25 public / private equity and fixed income funds. Furthermore, this position provides support for the general banking operations and debt activity within the Office of the Treasurer, and liaises with other university personnel to suggest best-practice structures and mechanisms for the university's other financing needs. Finally, the Manager of Investments will support the university's Investment and Plan Administrative Committee, who oversee the university's 403(b) retirement plan funds.

 

What You'll Do:

  •  Administers the endowment and other long-term investment portfolios of the institution including the following activities: (a) oversee asset allocation recommendations, risk reviews, and individual manager selection; (b) discuss and review investment strategy and performance with the relevant Board committees; (c) work with the university's external investment advisor to identify investment opportunities and perform manager diligence; (d) monitor existing investments and report fund and portfolio level developments; (e) conduct ongoing quantitative analyses at both the asset class and portfolio level; (f) successfully manage university and external relationships related to investments; and (g) implement and maintain internal controls adequate to safeguard investment assets. 
  • Supervises planned giving trustee and oversees management of planned giving assets of the university in conjunction with the university's planned giving professionals in the Office of Advancement. 
  • Reviews and recommends short-term investment options for working capital and other short-term funds. 
  • Reviews and recommends investment options of the university's 403(b) retirement plan as support to the university's Investment and Plan Administrative Committee (IPAC) when needed. 
  • Provides general support to Treasury operations in terms of banking and debt activities. 
  • Assists the university Treasurer in the supervision and development of two to three staff and professional positions, including one or more senior financial analysts. Directly responsible for the integrity of all investment-related financial management and process controls. Works closely with staff, management and executives throughout the institution, as well as trustees, to ensure the effective administration and optimal risk-adjusted performance of the University's investments.
  • Under the oversight of the Treasurer, responsible for asset allocation reviews, manager selection, risk management controls and investment processes associated with the university's endowment and institutional reserves (totaling over $1.1 billion), as well as the implementation of and reporting on all investment-related actions. Also participates in strategic planning, execution, and monitoring of the university's $270 million debt portfolio.
     
What You'll Need:
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred; preferably in investments, business, finance or a related field
  • Minimum seven years investment management experience required
  • Experience in Higher Education or other not-for-profit organizations preferred
  • CFA or CAIA preferred
  • Deep understanding of financial markets and experience with a variety of investment instruments and strategies
  • Proven advanced quantitative analysis and presentation skills with a solid understanding of financial valuation methods, statistical analysis, investment analysis, and other information modeling techniques required
  • Effective written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to clearly and concisely articulate complex concepts in meetings, presentations, and in writing to successfully recommend courses of action to executive management and board members]
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and maintain confidential information
  • Planning and organizational skills including ability to work across multiple functional areas effectively
  • Effective utilization of technology required with proficiency in standard office productivity applications
  • Higher education experience or similar experience at a large non-profit preferred
  • Limited travel anticipated. An offer of employment for this position will be contingent upon the successful completion of criminal and financial background checks.
