What are the responsibilities and job description for the Supervisor, Evening Circulation (On-site) position at DePaul Talent Acquisition?
What You'll Do:
- Facilitate access to library materials-Circulate library materials (including books, media, course reserves, and loanable technology) and materials available through our I-Share consortial borrowing agreement and interlibrary loan. Ensure materials are correctly charged and discharged. Route returned materials to the correct destination. Review and update item and patron records in Alma, our integrated library system database. Provide supplemental support in related access services, such as course reserves and interlibrary loan.
- Provide high quality, equitable service to all library users face-to-face at the Access Services Desk, over the phone, and via email and IM/Chat. Assist users in navigating the library catalog to locate specific items. Explain library policies and procedures. Enforce policies in line with DePaul’s Vincentian mission and values. Assist other library staff in troubleshooting issues related to circulation as they arise.
- Supervise and mentor student workers-Collaborate with other staff supervisors to coordinate the work of 8-10 student assistants in the department. Serve as the supervisor on duty on rotation with others in the department to directly supervise student workers and assist in troubleshooting issues that arise. Train student workers on circulation policies and workflows. At the beginning of each academic quarter, collaborate with the Circulation Supervisor to create the student worker schedule in consultation with the Head of Access Services and other staff supervisors in the department. Assist in recruiting and interviewing student workers when there are vacancies on the team.
- Contribute to the overall operation of the department and the library-Participate in department-wide efforts to review policies and improve workflows. Maintain relevant departmental records and statistics and up-to-date documentation of procedures. Make recommendations to the Head of Access Services related to circulation policy and departmental priorities. Serve on library-wide committees and teams to implement strategic priorities.
- Directly supervise student assistants during scheduled times at the Access Services Desk. Assign tasks to student employees daily. Be familiar with applicable policies and procedures for student employees at DePaul. Assist in recruiting and interviewing student workers. Assist with performance evaluations.
- Associate degree required. Bachelor’s degree or Library Technical Assistant certification preferred.
- Experience providing customer service in a fast-paced environment required.
- Previous library experience preferred. Experience supervising staff or supervising an area of operations is preferred.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills (email, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs) required. Experience with Alma or other integrated library systems preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and effectively interact with people across cultural identities and foster an inclusive, equitable, and welcoming environment.
- This position is full-time at 35 hours/week. Hours are set at the start of each academic quarter in line with the needs of the department.
- Evening and weekend hours will be required. This position is based at the John T. Richardson Library in Lincoln park; occasional travel to the Loop campus may be required.
