The Highlights:
The Assistant Director position serves as an essential role within the leadership and organizational structure of the Office of Multicultural Student Success. The role advances the office's mission of supporting the retention, success, and engagement of underrepresented students. The position also ensures the execution of OMSS programs and initiatives that promote equity, inclusion, and belonging.

What You'll Do:

  • Supervision: this role will provide direct supervision and managerial support to two full-time professional staff members and leadership support to a team of graduate-level paraprofessionals.
  • Caseload: this role will be responsible for the oversight of a caseload comprised of retention, persistence and progress toward timely graduation initiatives. Participants including but not limited to: Undocumented Students, First-generation, High-financial need, and Students of Color. The Assistant Director will serve as an internal care specialist for OMSS participant programs and serve as a member of a coordinated institutional response team. The Assistant Director will also assist with the management of escalated cases and is considered a crisis responder by nature of their position responsibilities.
  • Assessment and Program Management: this role will be responsible for the development, facilitation and assessment of Donor-Funded Scholars programs as well as provide managerial oversight to OMSS Transition Programs. The Assistant Director will be responsible for developing quarterly scholar academic performance and engagement reports as requested by members of the Advancement and Donors Relations Team.
  • Budget and Operations Management: this role will have shared responsibility in the oversight of the following OMSS department cost-centers: OMSS department budget, Scholarship programmatic funds, Emergency Support funds. This position is also responsible for the oversight of direct reports purchasing and reconciliation compliance. This role will assist with OMSS department operations and establish customer service standards.
  • Position responsible for supervision of two full-time staff. Oversight and decision-making in regards to employee performance, training, and day-to-day operations.
  • Shared responsibility of department annual budget $18,000.
What You'll Need:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Master's degree; higher education/student affairs administration preferred.
  • 3-5 years of student success and retention initiatives experience.
  • Advising and Supervision Skills: provide leadership and support to direct reports; advise historically underrepresented student populations.
  • Advocacy and Crisis Management Skills: provide advocacy and crisis support to students and staff on a routine basis.
  • Program evaluation, assessment, and research skills: ability to assess programs and initiatives to determine impact; research best practices.
  • Data evaluation and organization: ability to interpret data; make data-informed decisions; organize data across internal systems.
  • Student development theory: understanding of student development theories and high impact practices.
  • Resource Management, Stewardship and Sustainability: Demonstrate effective stewardship/use of resources (i.e., financial, human, material).
  • Evening and weekend hours required on occassion.
The anticipated hiring range for this position is: $50,174.00 to $65,000.00.
The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
