The Highlights:
The Director for Non-Routine Capital Projects is responsible for leading the planning, development, design, budget, and construction processes for all non-routine capital projects and major renovations. Provides leadership, supervision, and direction for outsourced architectural and construction services personnel and consultants. Works collaboratively with ranking university leaders including vice presidents, academic deans and executive officers, to support tactical space use and planning efforts and long-term master planning initiatives. Works with the integrated workplace management system (IWMS) team to maintain space demographic information accuracy and to develop and maintain project delivery standards compatible with the university's IWMS platform (Planon). The person in the role is ultimately responsible for creating and maintaining an organized library of building drawings, past and present project information, and other essential documentation.

What You'll Do:

  • Responsible for the development, coordination, communication, implementation, and working processes of all assigned projects which may vary in size and scope from $50k-$100M . This includes but is not limited to selecting, coordinating, and directing architects, consultants, general contractors, and other vendors associated with such projects. The director will also be responsible for project coordination and communication with affected internal stakeholders as well as external constituent groups including neighborhood advisory committees, concerned community members, and city officials. The director will be expected to make and render timely decisions to each of these parties as required to keep projects on time and within the established budget. Decisions with a significant budgetary or project scope impacts will first be referred to the Vice President for Facility Operations for consideration and input.
  • Has general oversight of all projects under development or in progress to determine compliance with drawings, specifications, building code, budget, and established commencement and completion timelines.
  • Responsible for all aspects of assigned project finances, including budgeting and accounting, reconciliation of invoice and payment requests, securing lien waivers, processing invoices through the finance office, and maintaining all project accounting records.
  • Supervises, trains, develops, and delegates of work to the Non-Routine Capital Projects Manager.
  • Collaborates with other university leaders and consultants to support tactical space use and planning efforts and long-term master planning initiatives. This also includes working with the integrated workplace management system (IWMS) team to maintain space demographic information accuracy and to develop and maintain project delivery standards compatible with the university's IWMS platform (Planon).
  • Maintains an organized library of building drawings, past and present project information, and other essential documentation.
  • The Director for Non-Routine Capital Projects has supervisory responsibility for the Non-Routine Capital Projects Manager. Provides oversight of consultants, contractors, and vendors who may be associated with projects under development or underway.
  • The Director will secure, vet, and organize all relevant budget information for each project. Project budgets will be set in conjunction with the Vice President for Facility Operations and other university leaders as appropriate. Once project budgets are established, the Director will ensure that each project remains within its established parameters.
What You'll Need:
  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering disciplines, or project management required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant, and proven construction project management experience.
  • Working knowledge of construction principles and skills of the construction-related trades.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret construction and engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Proven ability to plan, budget, meet deadlines, set priorities and communicate effectively in a collaborative working environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Working knowledge of or ability to learn relevant Planon IWMS modules.
  • Working knowledge of CAD is preferred.
The anticipated hiring range for this position is: $99,505.00 to $155,491.00 annually.
The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
