Program
St. Raymond’s House, located in the East Mount Airy neighborhood of Philadelphia, provides 27 units of permanent supportive housing to men and women with chronic medical conditions and a history of housing instability. Opened in 2015 by Depaul USA, the program offers residents a safe and stable living environment while working closely with staff to set and achieve personal goals that promote long-term housing stability. In addition to housing, St. Raymond’s House offers an on-site medical clinic, staffed weekly by students from Drexel University College of Medicine, ensuring residents have access to essential healthcare services.
Position Description
The Cook is responsible for preparing and delivering quality food to 55 program residents, taking into consideration dietary requirements and maintaining excellent food safety practices. The cook will adhere to quality assurance policies and procedure while improving the health of clients. The cook is responsible for purchasing food within budget, managing inventory, supervising volunteers, and reports to the Philadelphia Director.

- Requires the use of a personal vehicle for jobrelated duties, with a valid Pennsylvania Class C driver's license and adherence to Depaul USA’s Motor Vehicle Policy.
- Serves as a member of the staff, providing nutritional meals and support for clients.
- Collaborates with staff to plan, purchase, and prepare nutritious meals for both clients and staff, working independently and as part of a team.
- Ensures a safe and secure environment, maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene in accordance with Depaul USA’s quality assurance policies and government regulations.
- Responsible for food preparation, storage, and service.
- Produces consistently highquality food using fresh ingredients, tailored to the specific dietary needs of the client group.
- Creates and distributes a weekly menu, ensuring it is published to both staff and residents.
- Works within budget specifications to order food from Philabundance and private providers.
- Maintains accurate records of orders, deliveries, and kitchen operations, and coordinates donation pickup/dropoff with community partners.
- Establishes, maintains, and monitors inventory control procedures.
- Ensures adherence to all quality assurance policies and procedures throughout all tasks.
- Ensures appropriate records and forms are kept up to date.
- Participates in monthly kitchen meetings.
- Shares pertinent information to other staff at the end of a shift.
- Shares responsibility for supporting volunteers.
- Stays informed of current local and national events, trends, and issues (wherever possible) that impact Depaul USA’s work with homeless individuals.
- Strives continuously to develop the role in collaboration with the supervisor to ensure that all tasks are being undertaken effectively and appropriately, meeting the strategic goals and objectives of Depaul USA.
- Participates in internal/external meetings as required and attends training events, conferences, and other functions as necessary. Participates in regular supervision and annual appraisal and helps in identifying your jobrelated development and training needs.
- Ensures adherence to all Depaul USA policies and procedures, particularly those relating to Health and Safety, Safeguarding, Code of Practice, and Confidentiality. Contributes to the effective implementation of Depaul USA’s Equal Opportunities Policy as it affects both the organization and its work with this client group.

Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent certification
- SafeServe Manager certification
- A minimum of three (3) years of food service experience in institutional cooking, catering, or food service operations
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage inventory and order supplies within budget
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe work environment
