The Pharmacy Technician will assist the pharmacist in daily operations, including preparing medications, providing customer service, and ensuring the pharmacy runs smoothly and efficiently. This role requires a strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the pharmacist in preparing prescription medications, including measuring, packaging, and labeling.
- Process prescriptions electronically and ensure accurate and timely data entry.
- Provide excellent customer service by answering questions, resolving concerns, and explaining medications and instructions under the supervision of the pharmacist.
- Handle phone calls from patients, doctors, and insurance companies in a professional manner.
- Assist in managing inventory by receiving, stocking, and organizing medications and supplies.
- Operate pharmacy cash registers and manage transactions, ensuring accurate payment processing.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all legal, ethical, and company policies.
- Monitor medication stock levels and notify the pharmacist of shortages or expired medications.
- Support the pharmacist in maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
- Ensure compliance with all pharmacy regulations, including HIPAA, DEA, and state-specific rules.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification preferred, but not required.
- Previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician or in a related role is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Proficiency in pharmacy software and basic computer skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of pharmacy laws, regulations, and medical terminology is beneficial.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Work Environment:
- The position involves standing for long periods, working with small quantities of medication, and using specialized equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds and work in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
