Expected Pay Range: $60,000 - $80,000/year.


Summary and Scope

The Power Distribution Specialist will ensure optimal performance of power distribution systems. Primary duties include designing and overseeing the construction and operation of power distribution networks, specifically utilizing generators. This includes analysis of load requirements, calculation of power demands, and the integration of renewable energy sources into the grid. The Technician will also conduct system simulations to forecast performance under different scenarios and identify potential issues before they occur.


Essential Functions

  • Design layouts for electrical distribution systems that maximize efficiency and reliability while minimizing costs and environmental impact.
  • Inspect and monitor distribution systems to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Coordinate with other personnel to manage power distribution and address any technical faults that may arise.
  • Implement maintenance strategies for electrical distribution infrastructure to enhance longevity and functionality.
  • Utilize and develop new technologies and methods to improve system performance, including smart grid technologies and circuit breaker corrective maintenance.
  • Analyze and optimize power distribution to ensure balanced load across circuits and prevent overload or other inefficiencies.
  • Operate generators to ensure consistent power supply and monitor performance metrics, load distribution, and system stability.
  • Use diagnostic tools and techniques to identify and resolve electrical faults or malfunctions in the distribution system.
  • Adhere to safety standards for handling electrical systems, including proper grounding, lockout-tagout (LOTO) procedures, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) usage.
  • Install and maintain wiring systems, circuit breakers, terminals, transformers, and electrical connections, ensuring compliance with industry codes and standards.
  • Respond promptly to power outages, system failures, or emergencies, providing efficient repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Work closely with other technicians and team members, sharing knowledge and providing guidance on power distribution best practices.
  • Source or fabricate replacement electrical components.
  • Procure required permits, equipment, tools, and materials for projects.
  • Liaising with clients, vendors, and other departments.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Skills and Specifications

  • Understanding of electrical systems, thermodynamics, and power systems
  • Understanding of electrical engineering principles, energy regulations, and safety standards
  • Analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple projects concurrently
  • Experience paralleling generators

Education and Experience

  • Associate degree in Electrical engineering, Mechanical engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution is required.
  • Bachelor's degree is desired.
  • Electrical Power Generator Technician certification (or graduation from a technical school generator program) is desired.
  • Electrical Generating Systems Association (EGSA) Journeyman Certification is desired.
  • 5 years of generator technology experience, including planning, installing, and overseeing power distribution at remote sites.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, see, hear, stand, walk, bend, twist, kneel, climb, engage in repetitive motions, and use hands and fingers to manipulate objects, tools, or controls. May routinely and repetitively lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted (or heavier with the use of proper equipment and procedures).


Expected Hours of Work

The ability to work flexible hours including nights, holidays, and weekends will be required based on contract needs. It is expected for this position to attend regular meetings during typical work hours in Eastern Standard Time as well as meetings as needed for assigned projects in other time zones.


Work Environment

This job operates in office, facility, warehouse, and field environments which require the use and wear of standard PPE, which will be provided by the company. We operate 24/7/365, inside and outside, in all weather conditions. There is an expectation of clear communication in English both written and orally.


Travel

This position requires up to 40% travel. Travel is dependent on contract load. The ability to travel to job sites and be away for extended periods of time based on contract needs is required. Short notice travel is required with 24-48 hours’ notice.


Work Authorization

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must be able to travel within the Continental United States (CONUS)
  • Must pass a drug test, motor vehicle record check, occupational health physical and lift test (if applicable), credit check (if applicable), and a background check upon accepting a conditional offer of employment.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license. Have/maintain a clean driving record.
