The Specialist, Child Well-Being, is the point of contact for matters related to child well-being at DHS sites.
Essential Functions :
- Observe the physical environment, individual interactions, and verbal and non-verbal conversations to assess child welfare concerns and ensure proper interactions between facility staff, family members, and children
- Develop solutions that leverage existing services, coordinate immediate interventions and case management activities among the staff to support the children's wellbeing
- Partner with management on decisions regarding the care of children who are experiencing medical, psychological, physical limitations, developmental, behavioral, or safety needs that require frequent attention or close monitoring, such as those identified as Elevated In-Custody Medical (ECMR)
- Assist CBP employees in documenting and transferring information for individual cases due to the complex requirements for HHS placements of children with special needs and for other downstream partners
- Engage with children to support their well-being, to include identifying those who are in distress or at risk
- Provide ongoing education during musters and provide facility staff requested tools to respond to specific situations with children, highlight success stories, and provide other insights into culturally sensitive care
- Report activities to leadership on a regular basis via shift reports and supervisory meetings
