The Director of Employee Relations provides strategic guidance and direction to Deployed Services (DS) employee relations functions, policies, investigations, and conflict resolution programs across the corporate enterprise. Develop, recommend, and implement policies to promote employee satisfaction and engagement. Partner with leaders in the design and implementation of proactive human resources strategies and solutions that align with organizational goals and analysis of workplace trends. Support operational leaders in the interpretation of policy, laws, regulations, practices, and contracts. This position is also accountable for leading and directing cross-functional teams, developing their department leaders by mentoring, coaching, and delivering performance feedback relevant to the organization’s business objectives to establish a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
Essential Functions:
- Provide expertise, consultation, direction and coaching to HR team and DS leaders involved in investigations to ensure alignment with laws, company policies, approaches, standards, practices, and processes
- Ensure corporate HR policies meet the needs of the business and are current, practical, inclusive, and comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations
- Oversee guidance to managers on investigations, including gathering and analyzing facts, applying relevant laws, policies, and past practice to reach conclusions, and make recommendations that influence management actions
- Collaborate with HR, legal and business leaders on a wide range of issues and concerns
- Utilize data analytics to identify trends, develop and implement proactive mitigation strategies
- Provide guidance and support to ensure the team complies with corporate policies, practices, employment laws and regulations, while advising on and clarifying employee relations and performance matters
- Direct the development and implementation of manager training, talking points, and outreach on topics within employee relations, compliance, and corporate ethics
- Partner with Corporate Communications team to educate all employees on expected workplace behavior, inclusivity, and corporate culture expectations, including the development and maturation of an open-door policy
- Strategize communication plans to promote employee engagement, development, retention and legal compliance
- Implement informal corporate dispute resolution process (e.g., mediation, etc.) to resolve issues and mitigate exposure to liability at the lowest level. Evaluate program’s effectiveness annually
- Partner with Legal Department on discovery requests, litigation support, investigations, and sensitive document reviews
- Assist legal in drafting responses to government agencies involved in employment law investigations, such as the EEOC or DOL
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge and Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Thorough understanding of human resources and labor relations principles, practices, and procedures
- Knowledge of statistical concepts and methods of data collection
- Ability to compile, research, and analyze information and compose and present comprehensive reports
- Understanding of the organizational hierarchy, jobs, qualifications, compensation and administrative practices
- Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with employees, leadership team members, and other stakeholders
- Excellent communication skills
- Must be able to speak, read, and write in English
- Ability to interpret and apply complex employment and labor laws
- Ability to work with the legal department on complex discovery requests for litigation
- Ability to work flexible hours in a 24/7/365 business environment
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field is required; Master’s degree or Juris Doctorate is preferred; related experience will be considered in lieu of degree
- Ten plus years’ functional experience plus five plus years in a senior management role
- SHRM-SCP is preferred
- Organizational experience in government contracting environments is preferred
- Experience with Collective Bargaining Agreements and Service Contract Act (SCA) is highly desirable
- Bilingual English and Spanish is preferred
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- Must pass a motor vehicle record check, as well as an employer and government background check (e-QIP or eAPP), after accepting a conditional offer of employment
