Job Duties

A. Performance Management
(Required for employees who supervise others)
Examples of Measures for Performance Management:
  • Expectations are clear, well communicated, and relate to the goals and objectives of the department or unit;
  • Staff receive frequent, constructive feedback, including interim evaluations as appropriate;
  • Staff have the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to accomplish goals;
  • The requirements of the performance planning and evaluation system are met and evaluations are completed by established deadlines with proper documentation;
  • Performance issues are addressed and documented as they occur.
  • Safety issues are reviewed and communicated to assure a safe and healthy workplace and a reduction in work related absences.

B. TECHNICAL COMPETENCY & QUALITY ASSURANCE
Performs work at a Journeyman’s level, corresponding with the trade, in 100% compliance and support of JC, CMS, VOHSA, NFPA, NATIONAL, STATE & LOCAL codes & standards. Follows proper troubleshooting techniques, identifies problems with limited assistance. Identifies and submits, written, needed corrective actions and parts list required for those repairs to the supervisor. Follows assigned planned maintenance procedures. Evaluates equipment/devices for proper application/operation, potential failures, makes the appropriate repairs or adjustments and reports discrepancies to the supervisor. Measured by observation and documentation. No more than 3 documented errors per annual evaluation period.

C. TIME MANAGEMENT
Reports ready to work at the designated place & times & area assigned. Calls in within 10 minutes of being paged. Efficiently and effectively moves from one task to other not losing available man-hours. Work is completed when assigned, within designated timeframes. Tasks are planned out as to needed parts, tools, equipment and assistance to limit wasted man-hours, trips and materials. Measured by observation and documentation. No more than 3 documented errors per annual evaluation period.

D. DOCUMENTATION
Assure that all documentation is correct, complete, and legible and submitted properly at the end of the shift, when task is completed, or within the designated time frames as appropriate. Work orders are to include all materials, consumables, man-hours by date, and a description of what actions were taken, in addition to completed logs as required. Leave slips shall be submitted in advance or at the time of return to work in the event of coming in late or if called in off. Time sheet/records shall be updated at the end of each shift worked. Measured by observation and documentation. No more than 3 documented errors per annual evaluation period.

E. SAFETY
Performs work with the proper tools and equipment and tools are used correctly, for the tasks which they were designed. Follows proper safety procedures/methods, and uses the proper personal protection equipment. Maintains a proper safe working area & environment. Performs work in 100% compliance and support of JC, CMS, VOHSA, NFPA, NATIONAL, STATE & LOCAL codes & standards. Measured by observation and documentation. No documented errors per annual evaluation period.

F. OTHER
Demonstrates responsibility for care and inventory of tools, materials and equipment. Is cooperative with supervisor, fellow employees and staff members, assists others with personal expertise. Receptive to training and testing in the job field. Attends hospital required training/testing within proper time frames. Measured by observation and documentation. No more than 3 documented errors per annual evaluation period.

Minimum Qualifications

Working knowledge of painting trade, ability to apply paint with brush, spray, or roller to exterior and interior surfaces of structures where appearance as well as surface protection is important. Determines the methods, techniques, devices and materials that are best suited to the surface finish required. Prepares surface for painting, such as patching and finishing wood, concrete, wallboard, metal and plaster and other surface types, removing old finishes by use of varnish or paint remover, blow torch or sandpaper; repair cracks; applies sizing. Mixes paints in prescribed proportions and colors or used prepared paints. Refinishes floors. Paints or varnishes furniture and equipment. Refinishes furniture by stripping chemically or sandblasting then spraying to desired surface. Does street striping. Hang wallpaper, glazing, sign making, etc. as required. Working knowledge of ground maintenance, ability to drive and operate mowers, tractors, and ability to receive and follow oral and written instruction. Working knowledge of the installation, repair and maintenance practices, equipment, and materials used in the assigned skilled trades areas including, painting, and/or grounds keeping; and some knowledge of the principles and practices of other trades areas. Working skill in the use of a variety of equipment, hand, and power tools. Demonstrated ability to assist trades in a variety of repairs and maintenance tasks in the assigned trades and utilities areas, to perform heavy manual labor, and to work from heights.

Additional Considerations

Previous experience in a large facility or healthcare setting.
