Job Duties
The HIM Department is committed to providing the highest quality of service to patients, physicians, staff and other healthcare information users by ensuring the accurate, dependable and secure collection, maintenance and appropriate dissemination of information.
This position is responsible for the registration of all patients admitted to the facility with attainment of identifying biographical and legal information. Facilitates an efficient registration process while maintaining adherence to established hospital and departmental policy. Knowledgeable of state and federal laws regarding the legal status(es) of our patients, as well as maintaining accurate statistics within the patient information system. Maintain accurate patient photo, court docket, master patient index, etc. database.
Demonstrated knowledge of general office procedures, the ability to operate office machines and excellent verbal and written communication skills. The successful candidate will have the ability to work with a variety of customers including community members, patients, families, law enforcement, physicians, and facility staff. Ability to work and multitask in stressful and at times unstable environment. Knowledge of the admissions process; rules and regulations for processing medical record and medical terminology.
Usual Schedule is first shift: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED is strongly preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the duties of the position.
- Proficiency in computer applications and data entry, and excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Must possess Microsoft Office computer skills (Word, Excel)
- Knowledge of Medical terminology required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Additional training in HIM/business/administrative tasks preferred.
- Knowledge of the admissions process; rules and regulations for processing medical records is strongly preferred.
- Previous patient registration and Health Information Management (medical records) experience is strongly preferred.
